PROJECT OVERVIEW

Case study is best optimized for desktop and laptop viewing

This project started with the goal of improving the lives of people who are looking for a local work out group. Exercising in group setting offers numerous benefits, including increased motivation, improve performance, better mental health, enhance social connectivity, improve long-term adherence, and the promotion of overall healthier lifestyle habits. These advantages, supported by research findings make group workouts an appealing option for individual aiming to achieve their fitness goals while enjoying the benefit of social interaction and support.

Problem Proposal: How might we create an inclusive and engaging fitness community that brings together local residents to work out and support each other in achieving their health and wellness goals?

DISCOVER

Research: Competitive Analysis

During my research, I conducted a thorough competitive analysis, specifically examining apps and companies that prioritize accessibility. This investigation aimed to uncover existing solutions designed to assist individuals with disabilities.

  • Starva

  • Stridekick

  • Squaddy

Strava:

Stridekick:

Insight

  • All accessibility apps are provided free of charge or at a low cost, ensuring affordability for users.

  • The strength of these apps lies in their diverse range of options that cater to specific circumstances encountered by users.

  • However, the limitations arise from relying on how many group are there.

Research: Interview

After conducting user interviews through video with a test group comprising 5 individuals, aged 18 to 46, who have experience exercising both in group settings and alone, I discovered that the choice between working out in a group or alone is primarily a matter of personal preference. This methodology provided me with valuable insights directly from individuals who prefer group workouts, helping me pinpoint their unique challenges and issues with greater precision.

Identifiable pain piont:

  1. Receiving guidance from a more experienced individual.

  2. Giving a sense of community.

  3. A group enhances individual accountability by facilitating the reporting of results.

Affinity Maps of Research Findings

Conducted affinity mapping that aid in decision-making and problem-soving. its ability to harness creativity and insight through bisullizition, collaboration, and organizationn make it an invaulable aseset in problme solving, design thinkingm project management, and more.

Overall theme:

  • group workout

  • workout alone

  • what apps do they use

  • struggles

  • routine

  • goals

These are thing we keep in mind as we begin to define and develop this project

Main Takeaway

Recent research strongly supports the idea that group workouts offer substantial benefits for individuals seeking guidance, accountability, and motivation in their fitness journeys. A significant challenge for users lies in locating diverse groups that share similar fitness ideologies and principles.

DEFINE

Who are the users?

After crafting three distinct user personas to encapsulate our target demographic, it became evident that our audience comprises a diverse spectrum of individuals. Our objective was to devise a project that assists anyone seeking group workout solutions.

How Might We?

How might we make it easier for users to find exercise groups aligned with their specific fitness interests and goals?

Solution

Our mobile app serves as a platform linking users to local groups, fostering increased motivation, diverse perspectives, and the opportunity for shared experiences. This facilitates enhanced performance and overall growth.

Task Flows

To conceptualize the app's functionality, I devised three tasks that effectively showcase its features and capabilities.

  1. User can sign up with no issue.

  2. User can create group.

  3. User can create workout.

DEVELOP

Low Wireframe

This approach helped me determine button placements and gain a clearer understanding of the feasible features that could be implemented.I sought to model our solution after the user-friendly layouts of established platforms like Instagram and AllTrails, leveraging their simplicity to minimize the learning curve for our users. Specifically, I admire AllTrails for its straightforward app design, which served as a significant influence in our development process.

Mid Wireframe

UI Component

Color Palette : The color orange is frequently associated with attributes such as energy, excitement, joy, and creativity. This vibrant accent tone is thoughtfully balanced with a foundation of charcoal and blue to add depth, while the infusion of warmer, natural tones serves to ground and harmonize the overall palette.

Typography : Modern font that includes offset alignment to create a fun and friendly personality within the brand.

High Wireframe

After a comprehensive assessment of the low-fidelity wireframes alongside my mentor, I elevated the wireframes to a higher fidelity, integrating visual enhancements such as a carefully selected color palette and a polished, user-friendly interface, alongside the incorporation of meaningful icons. Additionally, within the high-fidelity wireframing phase, I took the opportunity to meticulously refine and fine-tune specific features, detailed further in the design choices section below.

DEVELOP

Usability testing

I conducted a prototype testing using Figma, engaging of five participants. During this process, I adeptly gathered feedback and discerned prevalent patterns and recurring themes among their experiences.

Reseach goals:

  • Make sure user can sugn up for the product

  • easy to navigate and join group

  • create a new group

Success Metric

  • Ease of use ( was there any confusion while completing the task?)

  • Completion ( was the user able to complete the given task)

  • Consistency ( were there any screens that stood out to the user in a way that was not consistent with the rest of the screens?)

Priority Revision

During the session, when asked about the key element, all testers showcased a keen understanding of the intended focal points. Moreover, they expressed genuine admiration for the app's visual aesthetics, noting how effectively it mirrored the desired image envisioned by the stakeholder. However, some testers encountered difficulty navigating through additional tabs. Consequently, this issue was promptly identified and rectified, marking one of the few straightforward improvements made to the product.

Edit: I've revised the menu to enhance its visual appeal and improve ease of navigation.

Conclusion

In summary, this application effectively tackles the prevalent issues individuals encounter when organizing group workouts and maintaining dedication to their fitness objectives. Through its user-friendly interface that encourages seamless organization, fosters a sense of community engagement, and caters to individual fitness aspirations, this platform has the potential to markedly enhance the overall experience of engaging in group fitness activities. Its ability to simplify scheduling, foster accountability, and assist users in achieving their desired fitness milestones positions this app as a catalyst for positively influencing people's lives. By promoting physical activity and aiding in goal adherence within a nurturing and cooperative setting, it holds the capability to create a significant and beneficial impact.

Furthermore, my vision includes the integration of supplementary features, such as a workout creation tool, within the app's framework. Additionally, I envision extending its accessibility by developing a corresponding website. This expansion aims to offer users a more comprehensive platform, enabling them to not only create tailored workouts but also access the app's functionalities across various devices via the web. By incorporating these enhancements, the app can better cater to diverse user preferences and ensure a more seamless and versatile fitness experience.

Upon reflection on the project, if I were to revisit it, I would implement a more collaborative approach by seeking feedback from mentors and peers before making crucial decisions. I recognize the value of leveraging their perspectives to gain valuable insights and refine the project's direction. Additionally, I would enhance the interview process by crafting more detailed and insightful questions. These refined interview questions would aim to extract comprehensive and nuanced information, allowing for a deeper understanding of user needs, preferences, and potential improvements. By incorporating these adjustments, I aim to foster a more informed decision-making process and ensure a more robust and user-centric project outcome.
